Case Study

"You can spend a lot of hourly rates and weeks trying to enhance the performance of software functionality, whereas a matter of installing the Site Optimizer accomplishes a milestone leap forward that is just amazing."

-- David Madison, equaTEK President and Chief Technology Officer

The Performance Challenge

equaTEK was developing a SaaS application, which had high performance requirements:

"Our engineers were working hard to get every millisecond of performance out of the thing. They got to the point where they were spinning on some of the areas and taking longer than the budget allowed to squeak out the performance we needed. We [needed] to inch [better] performance out of the application without burning so much time."

The Purchase Justification

Strangeloop provided a performance trial using the Site Optimizer. The results spoke for themselves:

"It proved to us very effectively that we could continue to beat our heads against a wall paying an hourly rate to continue to look for ways to reprogram the application so we could get performance enhancements, or we could instantly embrace the Strangeloop solution and know what we were getting for it. It became a no brainer."

The Results

  • Speedier application response time:

"In one instance, page load times went from 12 seconds down to between 5 and 6
seconds. We have generally seen a 40 to 50% improvement."

  • Improved developer productivity:

"You can spend a lot of hourly rates and weeks trying to enhance the performance of software functionality, and a matter of installing Site Optimizer accomplishes a milestone leap forward that is just amazing. I’d much rather engage an application that’s going to take me from 0 to 50 right now guaranteed, than spend a whole lot of time working out how to tweak this line of code versus that line of code in an unknown time period. Not only does this take a lot of an engineer’s time, there’s also the risk that you get very little improvement."

  • Faster feature implementation:

"Our engineers don’t have to continually refactor for performance."

  • Reduced user support costs:

"There are now fewer performance-related support calls."

  • Faster revenue growth:

"If the data refresh is accelerated, the viewer’s experience is going to enhance the probability of adoptions."
