Strangeloop Networks Inc. today announced that Virginia Balcom has joined the company as vice president of marketing. Most recently responsible for marketing at global supercomputing leader Cray Inc, Balcom joins Strangeloop Networks to drive the launch of the company and the introduction of its flagship product being announced on Monday, May 21, 2007.
“Virginia is a seasoned tech marketing veteran with an impressive list of start-up successes under her belt,” notes Jonathan Bixby, Strangeloop Networks’ president and CEO. “We are very fortunate, in this competitive technology market, that she has chosen to join our company.”
Balcom, a mechanical engineer by training, has more than 20 years of technology marketing experience. After management positions with technology leaders TELUS, Nortel and Newbridge Networks, Balcom joined a group of high tech industry innovators who launched Abatis Systems, Inc. and subsequently sold the company to Redback Networks for the record setting amount of USD$636 million, the largest sale price of any private Canadian high-technology company up to that time.
Following the acquisition, Balcom and the Abatis leadership team went on to launch OctigaBay Systems, an innovative high performance computer company, acquired by Cray, Inc in 2004. Balcom remained with Cray to lead the re-branding of the supercomputing icon and launch its next generation high performance computing products.
“I see the Strangeloop solution as one that answers a pressing market need in an innovative and focused way. This uniquely positions Strangeloop to solve ASP.NET performance challenges,“ said Balcom. “I’m excited to be joining such a talented and entrepreneurial team.”
