2012 Annual State of the Union: Page Speed and Web Performance
This report is part of our ongoing commitment to benchmarking and analyzing the performance of leading e-commerce websites. Last year, in our inaugural State of the Union, we were surprised to find that the average load time for the home page of a top 2,000 retail website was 11.21 seconds. This finding flew in the face of the general belief that websites are getting faster.
In our most recent study, we were curious to answer several questions, including:
- Which websites have gotten faster or slower?
- What are the underlying causes of these changes?
- How fast did sites load across various browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome?
- Does the use of a content delivery network (CDN) correlate to faster load times?
